Treat every gun as if it were loaded:
Even if you think a gun is unloaded, it could still be loaded, and you should always handle it as if it might be. Always double and triple check.
Never point the muzzle of any firearm at anything you are not willing to shoot:
This means you should never point a gun at yourself, others, or anything you don't intend to shoot, even if it's unloaded!
Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot:
Your finger should rest high and away from the trigger guard until you are absolutely certain of your target and ready to shoot.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond and around it:
Before you pull the trigger, you must be absolutely certain that you know what your target is, what is behind it, and what is between you and it.
